How should I handle and clean my 3D-printed item?

Proper care and cleaning will help your 3D-printed item last longer and maintain its quality. Here’s what to keep in mind:

Handling Tips:

  • Avoid excessive bending or stress, especially for delicate prints or those made with brittle materials like PLA.

  • If your item includes moving parts, handle them gently to prevent breakage.

  • For outdoor prints, consider a UV-resistant coating to protect against sun damage.

Cleaning Methods:

  • Dust & Debris Removal – Use a soft brush, microfiber cloth, or compressed air to remove loose dust.

  • Water & Mild Soap – For non-sensitive prints, use warm water and gentle soap, then pat dry.

  • Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) Wipe – For tougher stains on PETG, ABS, or nylon, a light IPA wipe can help, but avoid excessive use on PLA as it may weaken the print.

  • Avoid Harsh Chemicals – Strong solvents or acetone can damage FDM prints, especially PLA.

Special Care for Painted/Finished Prints:

  • If your print has paint or coatings, use a soft, dry cloth instead of water.

  • For high-detail models, consider a fine brush to clean small areas without damaging details.
